This article has all the various rules for parsing and speedruns in Blackwing Lair for Fresh Anniversary Servers on Warcraft Logs rankings.
Please note this does not affect Vanilla Era or Hardcore parses.

Boss Parsing Rules
All parsing rules are made mainly by community feedback, suggestions, or proposals. Join us on Discord if you wish to contribute.
Please note that the default metric in Blackwing Lair is Damage to Bosses, which means any adds are excluded from that metric.
Razorgore the Untamed
Phase 1 is excluded.
Vaelastrasz the Corrupt
No rules.
Broodlord Lashlayer
No rules.
Firemaw
No rules.
Ebonroc / Flamegor
No rules, though you can do them combined (which does not count for All Star Points).
Chromaggus
No rules.
Nefarian
Phase 1 is excluded.
Complete Raid
Complete Raid on Warcraft Logs means doing the full raid in one go. This has a clear starting point and ends when the last boss is killed.
Doing a Complete Raid rewards you with Complete Raid parses. This includes Speed parses for Guilds and Boss Fight DPS parses for personal parses.
Boss Fight DPS
This is the parse for all boss encounter DPS combined, only counting kills. This also requires you to do the full raid in one raid day.
Boss and Trash DPS
This is the DPS parse for all boss + trash encounters combined, counting everything. This requires you to do the full raid in one raid day. Everything (unless explicitly said so above) is included for overall boss/trash, even excluded adds, and downtime is not factored in.
Cooldown Restrictions
BWL has an additional restriction on Complete Raids, which is to avoid waiting for cooldowns such as Recklessness, Death Wish, Diamond Flask, etc., in between bosses. This will not invalidate your Boss Fight DPS Complete Raid, it only puts it in a separate category, and you will get a 'Yes' in the waited column.
This is calculated by using your total boss kill time, and allowing you a minimum use, and it always rounds up. This rule will likely not get noticed by normal runs.
3 min CDs (minimum use of 6): 60 seconds per use: Death Wish, Arcane Power.
5 min CDs (minimum use of 5): 65 seconds per use: Adrenaline Rush.
6 min CDs (minimum use of 4): 70 seconds per use: Diamond Flask.
Waiting and using Recklessness excessively will also get your log blacklisted.
Example:
If you have these kill times:
- Razorgore 21 seconds
- Vaelastrasz 31 seconds
- Broodlord 45 seconds
- Firemaw 1 minute 15 seconds
- Ebonroc 1 minute 23 seconds
- Flamegor 58 seconds
- Chromaggus 1 minute 44 seconds
- Nefarian 1 minute 5 seconds
That is a total kill time of 482 seconds, which you can then divide to figure out the number of times you could use cooldowns:
482 / 60 = 8.03 (this rounds up to 9)
482 / 65 = 7.415 (it always rounds up to 8)
482 / 70 = 6.88 (rounds up to 7)
This means you can use up to (and including) 9 Death Wish, at least 8 Adrenaline Rush, etc. This rule will not be noticeable in average guilds and will only stop logout runs on the top end.
Other
Power Infusion
As PI on Vanilla is a pure dmg% increase, we attribute the damage gained back to the priest.
World Buffs
- Battle Shout from the Warrior Class Quest is banned.
- Traces of Silithyst is banned.
Items
The items currently banned are:
- Battle Squawk from Gnomish Battle Chicken
Excessive Life Taps
Excessively using Life Tap to pad healing parses will invalidate your kill.
Speedrun Requirements
The below requirements are needed to get a Complete Raid ranking for Fresh - Blackwing Lair, which includes Boss Fight, Boss/Trash, and Speed rankings.
A Complete Raid parse requires the full raid done in one run. It is recommended to have multiple people combat logging in case of disconnects, releases, and general bugs.
Start and End Point
The Complete Raid (speedrun) starts with the pull of the Grethok the Controller.
The run ends when Nefarian dies.
You cannot validate your run by killing trash after all bosses are defeated.
Trash Requirements
Trash requirements are done mostly by the community. Join the Discord to contribute.
- 1 Death Talon Captain (ID 12467)
- 9 Blackwing Taskmaster (ID 12458)
- 11 Death Talon Hatcher (ID 12468)
- 10 Blackwing Warlock (ID 12459)
- 7 Death Talon Wyrmguard (ID 12460)
Penalties
These are penalties for the Complete Raid metric. This includes Speed, Boss Fight DPS, and Boss/Trash Fight DPS.
Flask Penalty
Using [Distilled Wisdom] and [Flask of Petrification] is limited to a total of 5 uses per raid in Warcraft Logs combat. Using more results in a time penalty of 1 minute per additional flask. Outside of combat, you may use any number of flasks, as this can't be reliably tracked by WCL.
The definition of "out of combat" is whether or not WCL thinks you are in combat or not. This may not match the in-game behavior, so plan accordingly. For example, trash fights can get combined on WCL if they happen too close together. Boss fight combats end when the ENCOUNTER_END event fires in the log, etc.
The number of flasks used can be easily adjusted, and we're hoping for more feedback to get to an agreeable number.
Swap Penalty
There is a 1-minute time penalty per character swap.
Time Penalty
Instead of having 'Without Skips' and 'With Skips' categories, we have implemented a time penalty for missed trash mob requirements.
If a raid partly misses the trash requirements it will face a time penalty, which is 300s / [mob type count] for each missed mob.
Example:
You need to kill 10 bears in a raid, but you only killed 9. That means your complete raid time gets a time penalty of 300s/10 = 30s. If you only killed 8 bears, then 60s get added to the complete raid time and so on.
