Wipefest in Cataclysm Tier 13

Wipefest support for Dragon Soul has been live since the raid released, helping guilds everywhere analyze the boss mechanics in their pulls and work out how they can improve their performance and continue progressing.

Let's dig into some examples of what mechanics Wipefest can automatically analyze for you in Dragon Soul! Make sure to check every boss for your needs, as below are just some examples of the analysis Wipefest provides for your raid.

All Bosses

Some insights that Wipefest provides are available on all bosses. For example, this ready check insight gives an overview of consumables, enchants, and gear to help spot any missing gaps. Note that flasks are not included here because cauldron flasks unfortunately do not log so it would be inaccurate.

You can also get an overview of potions...

... and healthstones!

Sometimes the simplest thing to analyze is avoidable damage, like

in Morchok's intermission. However, a lot of avoidable damage can be okay in moderation, so Wipefest goes a step further by giving your raid a percentile score that tells you how well you do this mechanic compared to other groups. In the example below, the raid scored a 74 percentile, which means they took less damage per cast than 74% of other groups. This helps to add context to your overall performance.

Note that here you can also see how each insight also has the relevant section of the Mythic Trap guide embedded, often in a video format to help you become familiar with each mechanic.

Often analyzing unfiltered avoidable damage isn't helpful, as mechanics like

will always deal damage to the targeted player, meaning they have no option to avoid it. In these cases, Wipefest makes sure to exclude damage done to the targeted player, saving you time going through logs.

The Claw of Go'rath on Warlord Zon'ozz has an

ability that only triggers if no players are within melee range. This is a good example of how Wipefest can help to answer the "what the heck did we all just die to?" question that can occur for less obvious mechanics.

Sometimes looking at the total damage taken is misleading and looking at the average per hit is actually more indicative of performance. For example, Yor'sahj's

deals damage to random players, increased based on how far away they are. As players are targeted randomly, some might naturally get hit more than others. The true performance indicator is how much average damage they take per hit, as this indicates how close to the boss they were able to get.

Wipefest also looks at buffs and debuffs to help analyze mechanical performance. For example, freeing players quickly from

on Hagara reduces their damage taken and increases their uptime on the boss.

There are two deadly mechanics on Ultraxion and Wipefest will help you analyze both of them. The first is to ensure that you use

just before
expires to prevent being one-shot.

The second is to make sure enough players soak

to ensure that the raid doesn't completely wipe. You'll likely have a soak order assigned here and Wipefest provides a table of who actually soaked, which can be helpful to see where a mistake might have happened.

On Warmaster Blackhorn you must keep The Skyfire alive by intercepting

with many players and
with at least one player.

And also when soaks were missed:

Sometimes (and more so in classic) mechanics just aren't logged very well by the game. For example, Roll on Spine of Deathwing has no in-game spell and doesn't log any events. For this, Wipefest guesses who died due to it by looking at players that died to no ability.

Madness of Deathwing is a complicated fight, but everything happens in a set order. The Timeline view on Wipefest can be particularly helpful for checking the flow of the fight. When do adds spawn? When are key mechanics cast? When did we use raid cooldowns?

This encounter also has a lot of tank debuff mechanics, and Wipefest helps you analyze these with stacks insights that show you how many debuff stacks tanks reach.

If you make it to the last phase of Madness, please remember one thing: kill the Congealing Bloods before they reach Deathwing! After a wipe, if you're unsure if "that one blood that got real close looked like it might have died just before reaching", Wipefest will be sure to let you know if it healed the boss or not.

New Feature: Ignore Events After a Wipe Has Been Called

Wipefest has always supported letting you ignore events after 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 deaths to help you hone in on what happened before a wipe was called. However, now you can use a more accurate "Ignore events after wipe called" option that integrates with the Warcraft Logs Uploader "Call Wipe" hotkey. If the logging player uses this hotkey while playing, you can tell Wipefest to ignore all events that happened afterwards.

Regardless of whether the threshold is enabled, a "Wipe Called" title event will show in the timeline to indicate when the logging player called a wipe.

Wrapping Up

This is just a taste of some of the mechanical analysis that Wipefest has to offer, alongside other features such as player scores, event timelines, guides, and multi-pull analysis.
